DALUR / THE VALLEY
30 min. | In Faroese with English Subtitles.
Directed by Heiðrik á Heygum, 2016.
A guilt-ridden taxi driver (Klæmint Henningson Isaksen) takes a desperate passenger (Kristina Sundar Hansen) to her destination. On the journey their fates collide and they both realize that they have to make a final sacrifice in order to be redeemed.
In a desperate attempt to avoid arrest, burglars Gitte and Frank risk committing an even more horrible crime. They thought they were doing a simple breaking-and-entering; instead they’re facing life and death on a winter night.
During a day’s work Death meets a breathtaking young woman. Death becomes fascinated and in lovewith the young woman, and she in him. But death realises that it is an impossible love affair, when everything he touches withers and dies. What do death have to do to become a part of life?
Two young women are preparing for a party. All is set, and the only thing remaining is a choice of hairstyle. Faced with each other in the mirror, tension is running high and it only takes the smallest thing to re-ignite a deep and lasting conflict between these two friends.
When Alda’s husband dies on a long distance fishing sloop she is in a great sorrow. An empty coffin is buried while Bogi is resting on the bottom of the sea. Her love for the sea becomes more apprehensive though her desire to leave the country grows stronger.
ALDA is a short film with inspirations from paintings by Sámal Joensen-Mikines. With the combination of high contrast, dark colour tones and a high grain 35mm film stock the intention is to create a cinematography style close to the look of paintings.
